The European Voluntary Service, financed by the European Commission program ("Erasmus +" program), is aimed at young people aged from 17 to 30 and offers the possibility to carry out voluntary work abroad for a suitable period between 2 weeks and 12 months. It is an intercultural learning experience done mainly in an informal setting, to promote social integration and active participation. Through this experience young people have the opportunity to express solidarity with others and gain at the same time, new skills and competences useful for their personal training and curriculum.
How does it work?
There is a database that contains information on all accredited organizations for EVS (the ones that have been given the authorization to host or send volunteers). Each organization is presented through a short description, its motivation and EVS experience, the themes of work and contact details.
European Voluntary Service proposes projects in different areas: culture, youth, sports, social care for the elderly, the disabled and the immigrants, cultural heritage, art, leisure, media and communications, environmental protection and education, rural development and development cooperation. EVS activities can be short or long term (short-long term). The EVS project is an agreement between the volunteer, the host organization (foreign) and sending organization (the one of the country of residence of the candidate) which deals with the tutoring between the candidate and the foreign association.
